To become a realtor you will first need a license and pass a State exam. You must take a 75 hour pre-license course that is accredited by the NY State Licensing Agency before you can take the exam. If you want to become a broker which gives you the ability to manage a real estate office or own your own business, you will need additional education and pass an additional exam. You must also be a licensed real estate salesperson for a period of two years before you can apply for your Broker's License.
